Ahh, the thought of summer. Sunshine, beaches, barbecues and adventures. Such a wonderful time of year! One thing I often remember about summers is that each one often has it’s own song or soundtrack that you can go back to, creating vivid memories whenever you hear it! Well, San Diego is chock full of music during the summer. And we like to help create memories…we figured why not offer you the opportunity to create your own summer soundtrack for 2016? So, without further ado, here is our list of What San Diego Summer Concerts You Should Attend! In my opinion, at least!
Journey and The Doobie Brothers: If you love the idea of getting some quality classic rock stuck in your head, are nostalgic about the 80s and 90s and believe “Don’t Stop Believing” can be a mantra for life, this concert should be near the top of your list! They hit San Diego on August 30th as their last stop on their North American concert trek.
Bonnie Raitt: Keeping up with the nostalgia, the legendary Bonnie Raitt will be gracing San Diego on July 27th. She have been putting out albums since the 70s, but they said ‘an oldie but a goodie’ for a reason. Ms. Raitt exemplifies this. Check her out.
Dave Matthews Band: If you’re eyeing the 15th anniversary of your high school graduation or if it’s barely in the rearview mirror, you’ll know these guys. Pretty well. If moody rock is your thing, Dave Matthews will be tearing up and lamenting in his rock on August 26th during his San Diego summer concert.
Weezer and Panic at the Disco: On August 3rd, these two bands team up in San Diego for their North American concert tour, celebrating their April 1st album drops. Many years after their blue album tickled me earbuds, Weezer songs still make me feel like summer. And Panic at the Disco certainly has people grooving on the dance floor. Could these guys be a match made in heaven? You tell me!
Bob Dylan: This legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will be playing two concerts at the intimate Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay venue. Intimate venue. Bob Dylan. ‘Nuff said. But I’ll continue…this venue has been trying to book Dylan for decades, and on June 13th and 14th, Humphrey’s will finally get their dream concert. If you can only choose one concert on this list, this should be a strong contender! Even the young’uns will recognize Dylan’s incredible classics.
Duran Duran: Who wouldn’t want to hear James Bond’s “A View To Kill” live? And how can you pass up a chance to sing along to “Hungry Like the Wolf”? Or get that shiver down the spine when you listen to “She’s Come Undone?” On July 31st you can hear ’em all in their San Diego concert this summer.
Lady Antebellum: If you’re a country fan as I am, Lady Antebellum would certainly be a San Diego summer concert to consider. Not only is the music catchy and the band nice to look at, this year they are playing at the San Diego County Fair on the Del Mar fairgrounds. A great outdoor venue, and a really awesome day spent enjoying the fair on top of getting to see the concert! Think of it like an awesome combo pack! Check them out on June 5th.
Rascal Flatts: If one country concert this summer isn’t enough, these country megastars will be playing on July 8th for their Rhythm and Roots Tour. Rascal Flatts is the most awarded country group of the past decade, which speaks to not only their music but their strong fan base. Even if you aren’t really familiar with the genre, I am sure you’ll recognize some of this band’s tunes.
Though the above list is pretty fantastic in my opinion, I’d be remiss to not mention a couple of concerts coming up for the younger readers in the group. Though the mega concerts like T-Swift, Beyonce or Katy Perry aren’t gracing San Diego through the summer, there are a couple pretty young things in concert that will bring out your inner teenage girl this summer. On July 6th Selena Gomez is on her Revival Tour, making a strong comeback after some person struggles and lessons learned in the spotlight at her young age. Her Disney bestie, Demi Lovato, will also be touring through San Diego this summer on August 14th, with joint tour teammate Nick Jonas. As a side note, Lovato’s newest album entitled, “Confident” will be partly featured during this concert. Kudos to this young starlet for bringing awareness to youth suffering from mental disorders after having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder herself. A pop star and a role model. Hard combination to come by, these days!
So there you have it. Our list of San Diego Summer Concerts you should attend! We hope you have a rockin’ and memorable summer 2016!
