It’s that time, when you’re working hard to plan the perfect family vacation. Your one time of year to get away, create some memories and have that escape to get you through until that next vacation…
If you’re planning a trip to San Diego with your family, we know one spot you won’t want to miss: The San Diego Zoo! But when you’re on a budget, tickets can get pricey. So we want to offer you a few tips to find those hard to come by discounts for the San Diego Zoo. Just another way to help make your family vacation memorable – and more affordable!
AAA, Military Personnel and Seniors: If you’re a member of AAA, you can purchase up to 6 tickets at once at the ticket window for a 10% discount. You have to show a valid membership card, so keep in mind this discount only applies at the San Diego Zoo ticket window, not online. The senior discount works the same way, if you are over 60 years old, go to the ticket window and get your discount! As a member of the military you are able to bring your ID and get a free 1 day pass. Check out the San Diego Zoo link here for more details.
Free Tickets for Kids Ages 3-11: During the month of October, The San Diego Zoo offers free tickets for children between 3 and 11. You can purchase them online, at the gate or by phone. The one stipulation, The Guided Bus Tour and Skyfari Aerial Tram are not included in this free ticket. So if you’re looking to escape the overwhelming summer crowds but still want to appreciate some San Diego sun and beach time, October could be the perfect time to go and take advantage of these discounts, as well!
The San Diego Go Pass: I’m a big fan of this option when planning a week long family vacation. The San Diego Go Pass allows you to customize the local parks, museums, tours and attractions at a discounted rate – including discounted tickets for The San Diego Zoo as well as Sea World, The USS Midway Museum and many other popular San Diego attractions. Depending on which package you choose or create, your discounts will vary. But all of them are great options!
RetailMeNot: This discount coupon website is a popular one, offering deals for everything from restaurants or retail stores like Old Navy to parks and major events. This list often includes discounts for tickets to the San Diego Zoo. I will warn you that RetailMeNot is not a 100% guarantee. Sometimes the discount codes work, sometimes they do not. But, in my opinion, it is well worth a shot.
Costco: You don’t have to be a Costco member to access some of their discounts for the San Diego Zoo and a number of other Southern California theme parks, including a great deal for a 3-for-1 Pass with the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park and SeaWorld. Just keep in mind that if you are not a Costco member you may have to pay some additional service fees when purchasing your passes.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and plan that vacation! And don’t forget these tips for discount tickets to the world famous San Diego Zoo!
